Finding Inspiration in Tokyo – Ikebana
There are some experiences that stay with you long after you’ve returned home, and my recent visit to Tokyo was certainly one of them.

While travelling through Japan, I had the privilege of attending a private Ikebana masterclass in a beautiful little studio tucked away in Tokyo. Surrounded by seasonal bloomz, delicate branches, and the gentle guidance of my teacher, Yuki, I was immersed in the art of Japanese floral design for an unforgettable day.
Unlike traditional Western floristry, Ikebana is about so much more than flowers. It is an art form that celebrates balance, space, movement, and the beauty of nature in its simplest form. Every stem has purpose, every line tells a story, and every arrangement invites a sense of calm and mindfulness.
Throughout the workshop, I created centrepieces, explored wedding bouquet designs, and learned the philosophy behind this centuries-old tradition. Yuki carefully selected soft romantic tones and beautiful textures, allowing me to experience the quiet beauty that makes Ikebana so unique.
What struck me most was the intention behind every arrangement. In a world that often feels rushed, Ikebana encourages us to slow down, observe nature, and create with thoughtfulness and gratitude.
As many of you know, I am always looking for ways to bring fresh inspiration back to the studio, and this experience has sparked so many ideas for the seasons ahead.
Coming This Spring
I am excited to announce that I will be hosting a special Ikebana & Matcha Workshop this Spring.
Set amongst the peaceful surrounds of our local Japanese Garden, this unique experience will combine the art of Japanese flower arranging with the tradition of Matcha tea.
Guests will enjoy:
- An introduction to the principles of Ikebana
- Creating their own seasonal arrangement
- Learning about Japanese floral design and culture
- A guided Matcha tea experience
- Time to relax, connect, and embrace the beauty of the garden setting
Whether you are a flower lover, creative soul, gardener, or simply looking for a mindful experience, this workshop will offer something truly special.
My time in Japan reminded me that beauty is often found in simplicity. I can’t wait to share a little piece of that experience with our community here at Bek’s Bloomz.
Stay tuned for dates and bookings! We’ll be welcoming Spring with flowers, Matcha, creativity, and a touch of Japan.
